Default Anyone tried any 6J1 tube rolling?

I have a little valve pre-amp that I've dug out for a little fun which uses x2 6J1 valves. I've the stock Chinese tubes in the pre-amp and for the cost it's not bad. I wondered if anyone had done anything similar?

I've played with 6N1 valves (tried Russian) with good results, is there a Western/Soviet equivalent?

I've got an FX Audio one from China. It sounds very good as it is, so I've not felt the need to tinker. Absolute bargain or twenty five quid including PSU even if it does only have one input.

I've got the same pre and replaced the stock bottles with a pair of NOS General Electrics. Details and dynamics have improved considerably, with a lower noise floor. Upgraded the power supply to a 5 amp one and that too brought better bass drive.
    CD player = Marantz CD6006
    DAC/pre = Rotel RC 1572

5654 valves are said to be an equivalent to 6J1.
I have a pair of these on the way https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Matched-p...72.m2749.l2649
    - rumoured to be a worthwhile improvement.

I might start a new thread on the subject for a little fun!

5654s are available from Watford Valves...the pair I received were French military tubes manufactured by Mullard.
I used them in a Little Dot headphone/pre and there was a distinct improvement in SQ and noise reduction over the Chinese tubes.

Given they cost peanuts its a no brainer.

I bought a pair of these and love them, very natural presentation and tonality. Chinese valves sound brittle and edgy in comparison.
