    Default HF Hearing Loss

Borrowed a signal generator to test my system and inadvertently discovered I'm deaf as a post above about 12.5KHz

I'm not sure of the unit's calibration but my wife and children could clearly hear up to 17Khz. So even assuming the generator was 3KHz out (highly unlikely), and they could hear up to 20KHz, I'm still 4.5Khz down.

I guess that's 27 years in industrial maintenance for you despite being pretty careful to use hearing protection.

Thing is, I don't feel I'm missing anything, so what *am* I missing?

What sort of sounds are above 12KHz, on recordings or otherwise?

You have slowly adjusted to the loss. Think frog gradually boiled rather than dropped into boiling water!

If you had lost your hearing suddenly you would notice.

BTW: The frog story is untrue!

I'm just deaf in one ear and daft in the other.
