    Just read about this, probably old news for most, another big name lost.

    I wouldn't mind betting Shure have had approaches from people interested in buying the rights to produce some of the classic cartridge designs.

    Thjere are already counterfeit copies and clones of Neumann microphones, Telefunken valves and Quad 405s - so it would come as no surprise to see "Chinese copies" of Shure cartridges appearing on the market soon.

    Yes, that's always possible, but I was suggesting legitimate production under licence.

    Actually, I'd have expected Chinese factories to have been turning out facsimiles already if they were going to.

    I'm not saying that copies, legitimate or otherwise, of Shure cartridges will appear, but the Chinese do have a history of producing illegitimate copies of several well-known brands.

    The latest to come to my attention is that of Bussmann branded fuses:

    I was about to say that they were being honest by not putting the QUAD name on the fascia - until you see the blatent and fraudulent text printed on the rear:
