    Default Hi from Bedford, England

Hi, First post, looking to rediscover beauty of vinyl. Have upgraded old system with RP6 and Dynavector DV20X2L, amp to Arcam A29 and have ordered Dali Optican 6's. Just offered privately Michell Gyro SE so tempted to sell RP6 & Dynavector along with some vinyl to fund. Michell on the want list since way back when so very tempting. Any thoughts/ comment appreciated. Tastes eclectic from indie to jazz to R&B (60's ) and a little classical.

Hi David, welcome to the forum.

Michell vs Rega P6, a tough one that. I can't really help with that but I'm sure a few members here are familiar with both and can chip in with some advice.

The Michell is beautifully made, attracts loads of comments with people who don't know it and superbly finished. Later,, it can be upgraded to something really serious (I think it's nicknamed Gyrorbe?). Not sure I'm a fan of the Dynavector though, as I find it a bit full fat and bloated for 'my' tastes, but it may well suit the Planar 6's precise tones - I'm more an AT fan myself and the F7 for example, looks very well priced as Dynavectors have all but doubled in price in recent years.

I used to visit Bedford regularly to see an old friend in Kempston with quite an audio collection at the time. There used to be a 'Bedford Audio Club' some decades back I believe. Not sure who your local dealers are now though...

Hi, No specialist store in town. Hi-fi Lounge at Biggleswade looks interesting but have yet to visit. Speakers came from Nintronics at Welwyn (just down A1 & good deal). Not aware of audio club in town. Esquires a good live venue but sadly to many covers bands these days. Dynavector a decent cartridge but may have to go to fund Michell. Anyone know degree of maintenance required going forward?

    Welcome to AoS David.

I would go for the Mitchell as I have a friend who owns one so am familiar with it. He uses an SME IV (upgraded) arm with an Ortofon Cadenza Black cartridge. What arm and cartridge do you plan on using?

    Regards

    Hi,

    Thank you.

Turntable has tecno arm & ortofon red cartridge being sold as one. Room for improvement at a later date but ok for now but will need to sell on Dynavector & RP6 first.

    Hello David. Welcome to AOS.

I can't tell you what to buy, but I have a liking for Michell products. Why not ask your question in the Analogue Arts section, I'm sure members will be happy to give opinions.

    Enjoy the forum,
    Geoff.
