    Thumbs up Best so far!

    Got this the other day....

That's considerably faster than the 350Mbps I'm supposed to get... I suspect that the FTTP install might be a factor. Gonna try now for 400!

It's about as high as I will get. The copper from the street is a big factor. In fact it's both old and probably not copper. Also it's not just next to house but out on front street

Living in a rural Devon village these days is interesting. I’m the early 60’s the GPO built a new telephone exchange about the size of a decent sized four bedroom house, which was filled to the brim with uniselectors. This fed out to nearby houses. and to two PCPs (green cabinets) distributing to the more distant parts of the village.

In the 80s, all the uniselectors were ripped out and replaced with a box of electronics about the size of a wardrobe, then ten years ago we got ADSL. If you were close to the exchange you got about 20 mb/s. Outlying farms maybe 1 or 2.

Then fibre came along. Fibre to the cabinet means exactly what it says. If your line goes directly to the exchange, you can’t have it, so they put a cabinet outside the exchange and fed all the direct lines to that instead. Brilliant! I now get a steady 70mb/s. Unfortunately they didn’t take fibre to the other two cabinets because they’re in dangerous roadside locations, so two third of the village don’t have fibre, and never will.

Enter Gigaclear. They are now in the horrendous process of digging up the entire village to bring FTTP to all. They’re even digging trenches out to local farms up to two miles away. They’ve made an enormous mess all over the place, caused massive disruption everywhere, and one of their 20 ton earthmoving lorries managed to write off my car last week but hey, that’s progress... once the dust has settled we’re promised anything up to 1gb/s. Happy days...

Great upload speed. The download is pretty decent too and fast enough for anything. The upload is truly impressive and you could do great things uploading stuff to clouds etc

I would love to have that upload speed. I only can get about 18mb. I'm currently uploading 2.3 tb of data and it is taking weeks!

Cat5e cable will be just fine, way above what you are seeing using Speedtest.

Hey, Jeff, nice to see you checking in again my friend! Hope all is well with the family and you?

That's an awesome upload speed - wish I could get that! In fact, I've no idea why the download speeds, available in this country, can be so good, but not equally matched by the upload speeds? The disparity between both, in my case, is huge!

Perhaps, someone like Chris could explain? Your download and upload speed is very evenly matched, so why isn't that the same here - or even somewhere approaching more even? Just curious!

I'm getting amazing download speeds of 380Mbps, yet only 21/22Mbps uploads - *why*...? Why not even 93Mbps, like Jeff?

I'd argue that, in the real world, Jeff's results are the more useful, as 90+ Mbps downloads is more than ample for the vast majority of people's needs, and coupled with such an amazing upload speed, makes the service he's getting ultimately better than mine.

Come on techies, let's hear your thoughts on this!

Meanwhile, the other day, I just pipped my previous best:
