I think the McIntosh is possibly the most hideous turntable in production - I strongly dislike every element of it.

^^^I agree totally, nasty looking thing. It may be pretty good, I don’t know. But to me, it is just for the Macintoss fan club. To each their own of course!

Take a step back and think.

Turntables are clumsy, awkward looking things, with only varying degrees of ugliness.

That's probably the viewpoint of most non-enthusiasts.

These posts are all from the eye of obsessives, who cannot see it like it really is LOL.

That’s not my experience - regarding non-audiophiles and turntables (unless you mean the vintage ones a lot of forum members are so keen on).

I expressed it in an extreme manner to make a point, but it isn't far from the truth I think.

The Michell designs are the only ones I have personally heard non-enthusiasts remark positively on.

Civilians do tend to recognise that a turntable is a turntable, unlike all the other stuff which is just mysterious boxes to them.

B&O made a fortune by deliberately setting out to make good looking hifi gear.

My old (and non functional) B&O tt was the only real looker I've had when viewed objectively imo.
    Civilians were invariably impressed.

    Phwoar ...

Maybe not the most beautiful ‘table around, but it has a certain industrial look about it? I certainly don’t mind showing it off.
