The Sony would likely make for an interesting comparison. However, "wipe the floor", I think not. Like most of these types of turntables, the motor units themselves are essentially 'neutral', thus pretty much devoid of character (because they're so well engineered), so what you're largely hearing is the sound of the arm and cartridge.

Therefore, what you'll get from an L-O7D will be rather dependent on which arm and cartridge is fitted. In that respect, the stock arm, whilst pretty good, can be bettered. It does have an inherently 'cool' overall sonic signature, however, in the way of an SP10, which if partnered with the wrong arm or cartridge, can make it sound somewhat sterile.

I did like the L-O7D very much, but ultimately preferred my own modded Technics, as did the owner of the L-O7D(!) which I heard in the same system (Dandy's), along with the Nakamichi, who subsequently sold his Trio, the following week, and bought an Inspire Enigma...

Not my idea of pretty, but some obviously like em. Still its how it sounds thats mostly important to most... not me tho...has to look good, as its a bit of house art as well

I always feel these sort of threads have the potential to turn nasty when your pride & joy is dismissed by someone as a "kit of shit" or other unkind remark. Beauty is very subjective, every single person ever thinks they know style & class when they see it, yet a huge percentage of everyone else says/thinks they are wrong. Not everyone can be right, or wrong even, it is just the same thing seen through different eyes.

Agreed totally, we all have our opinion but for me performance comes first, I would hate to think what have is better than everyone elses.

Very true Grant, same with pretty much anything, though a lot of what I don't like I can at least appreciate that others would & I would hope that that is the view everyone has instead of dismissing things without qualification.

I couldn't give a monkey's what anyone thinks of my kit, or my opinion of what looks good, as long as *I* like it and it looks good to me! Plus, when you post pictures on a forum, of anything, you have to be prepared for others to comment, positively or negatively. Therefore, you can't afford to be 'precious'.
