I just love japanese direct drive/arms from that era.The engineering is very good on the quality stuff.I know we shouldn't judge by eye but i do to a degree,id rather have a balance than something that looks awful but sounds great, after all we have to live with them.

Curiously similar looking platter to the magnetically levitating Gale 201, an iconic 70s design if ever their was one,

I have seen the IMF in the flesh does look a bit knocked together a lovely thing, I owned a gale one those things I wish I never sold superb design not very good sounding really not quite a Rockport.

For me, the most 'graceful' and aesthetically perfect deck is the tricorne shaped T.W. Acustic AC3. Haven't got a pic., unfortunately. This was to be my ultimate deck, with two frustrated attempts to buy one; then the Dais came up. Problem with the AC3, though, was the cost of the arm-boards.

Nice turntable I never quite got on with the sound but very versatile, arm boards are quite simple on the AC3 nothing that a good machine shop could not knock up easily, I would be tempted to try other materials in any case. Sme wanted £1400 for a arm board fro my 30/12 so I could put the thales on it, it is a big bit of brass. I had one made quite easily

Yes, that's a very lovely thing, Neil.

Stylish/elegant, yet understated, but also 'purposeful' looking, and most importantly, superbly engineered. I hate superfluous frippery, on turntables, and anything that you can tell has been designed primarily to act as an ornament. One must remember a turntable's primary function, which isn't simply to be looked at and admired!

Nice, but I prefer the 'chunkier', more substantial, look of the Braun, which was posted earlier in the thread. The one above looks a wee bit too much like a Lenco, popped inside a Braun plinth. I preferred the tonearm on the other one, too.

The PS-500 looks like a cheaper model, although I could be wrong.

Nice, if perhaps for me a little 'insubstantial'... Probably just because I tend to like things that are a bit more 'brutal'

The Helius arm is gorgeous though, which I suspect could be very good sounding!

I had the ‘S’ version a few years ago , beautiful engineering.
