    Default Screws needed

I need to replace some little black screws that have rusted on a component (the usual short rounded/cross headed screws you get on lots of different hifi gear, I don't know what the size is though)

Anyone know where I can find them?

I also need a thumb-operated screw on cap for an earth binding post, again don't know the size .. I'm thinking though I might need to replace the whole post?

A small error can mean you get the wrong one, metric vs imperial, then there's the thread size too.

For little money you could get a hardware pack that will give you a clue what size you need, plus some spare bits.

Once you know the size there are plenty of on-line hardware suppliers.

Alternatively I could send you a couple of M3 and M4 screws to see which it is you need.

Thanks all and those hardware packs look good though I was after black ones really I wonder if that's doable?

The holes are hard to measure with the plastic ruler I have but they are either 2mm or 2.5mm.

trick was to use the pack to gauge size of hole so you order correct screw of length and colour/shape etc.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Go to your local Engineers Supplier, take a screw with you. They will size it for you and you will probably have a selection of head and material available. You'll probably have to give them 50p for the tea tin!
