I’ve see that no one has fessed up to Star Trekin’ or Snooker Loopy, so there must be hope for us yet!

My wife finds my like of Cat Stevens a matter of concern but I’m hoping that a few of you will back m up on this one?

Yeah, it started to go a bit wrong didn’t it? However, I do think that sometimes artists do need to go through a bit of a self indulgent period in order to grow, rather than just producing more of the same just to please. The artist will come out all the better for it but they tend to be slated becuase its not the familar comfortable stuff people want to hear.

Ive got his greatest hit on cd. First half dozen are instantly recognised by name alone. You forget how many hits he had. After saying that I rarely play it.

Gilbert O'Sullivan is different case tho. He really had talent

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I'll back you up as well! I used to have 'Tea for the Tillerman' and 'Teaser and the Wildcat' on vinyl. Now I have a very good 'best of' collection which does me.

Some of those were 'one hit wonders', to which I'll add:

Bobby Gentry - 'Ode to Billy Joe'
Nena - '99 Red ballons' (actually I prefer the German version: 'Neunundneunzig Luftballons')
    The Boxtops - 'The Letter'

plus several more which I'll remember once I have posted this!
