    Lol...

Okay here are some pics of it.

The interesting history of this deck is quite recent as it was used on the set of the new Queen film coming out in November which is pretty cool cos I likes Queen...

Its been recapped and had new bearings fitted too. The heads were also relapped not so long ago.

The only thing I need to do is change it to CCIR as its currently NAB.

There are small daughter cards which simply plugs in to each repro and record card.

I'll hopefully be getting these next week.

Its been serviced but I think I'll get someone in to make sure everything is cool.

I then need to learn new how to calibrate it and what I would need so I'll be asking advice later on.

The tape I'd be going for is some sm900 I think but I'm open to opinions.

Don't know why but buying this makes me think of Stewart (Lodgesound)... I guess its because I remember chatting about calibration before he past away.

But, I'm sure you chaps will aid me.

Its a smashing bit of kit. I can't believe how well this thing is made, its built like a car. The chassis alone is over 2" deep and over 8" deep on the motor side.

Inside looks like a mass of spaghetti.

The thing I need now is a VU unit which would allow me to adjust and monitor the input signal going in to the unit. Same as on an A810 I suppose. And to obviously meter the output too.

I'm looking for options including maybe having a unit built.

    Can anyone recommend anything?

Oh that's just beautiful, and looks to be in absolutely top-notch condition. Well done - I'm most envious! The A80RC is really the only Studer that would interest me (though in the past I have come very close to acquiring a C37 and an A62).

Apropos 'calibration' or alignment of reel - reel machines, Charlie (topoxforddoc) wrote this piece for The Knowledge (in memoriam for Stewart (Lodgesound)): https://theartofsound.net/forum/show...184#post980184 .

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

    Josie,

That's a beautiful machine and how lovely of you to think of Stewart (Lodgesound). Have you got the manual?

You'll need a test tape, oscilloscope and set of meters to set up the repro. A set of PPMs like the TSL-AMUT2MA unit would be ideal for monitoring. More accurate for tape calibration than VUs.
