I only linked to the Stewart Lee clip because Macca played the "this country has been ruined by immigrants" card.

We seem to be getting distracted by whether or not Lee, with his more than two decades of critical and commercial success as a comedian, actually knows what he is doing.

The point was to draw attention to how a conversation about traffic was so casually turned into a Daily Mail type narrative that somehow manages to always blame immigration for the ills of society.

“Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of fuel. Sentimental people call it inspiration, but what they really mean is fuel. I have always needed fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio”

You should spend more time on reading comprehension than comedy because I said no such thing, as anyone with a basic command of written English can see.

Of course, it would be wrong to suggest the housing crisis, appalling crime rates, sliding standards, depressed wages, overcrowding and excess demand on services are in any way connected to this.

"Anyone with a basic command of written English" would understand that the word "floodgates" had negative connotations, surely? Please do accept my apologies if you feel that my interpretation of your comment was unfair. I'd be interested to see anything that could back up your claim that the UK population was at any point falling though, because I have never heard that said before.

Geoff - exactly. Although I'm sending you might be attempting sarcasm? I'm.going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that you don't think that Stewart Lee is very funny?

Oi, Robert and Macca, chuck it, please. You guys have got a history of niggling at each other, especially when discussions turn political, which the last few posts have started turning this one into, and which ends here NOW, ta!

I'll let that last post stand, Robert, as it was posted at the same time as my warning, but NO MORE, and that includes any response from you, Martin. Any further niggling posts about immigration, and such like, will be removed without further warning.

Remember the vote we carried out recently about whether political discussion should be allowed, and what the punishment was for those who abused it.....

Let's get back to the thread topic!

Given I've just had to delete more off-topic posts since my above warning, I've posted the warning again, to let the message sink in. The next person who ignores this will be out for a week.

    Now that's interesting.

The switch away from fossil fuels has started, but that might just speed it up.

    Thanks for posting the link.
