I think you can be sure of one thing. You WILL fall at some stage.

It's a shame because I would love one.

One thing I will say is I know that well made, high performance scooters are FAR safer than the rental jobbies.

Why? Because they are much better made, have suspension and pneumatic tyres, have enough performance to get you out of trouble and have larger wheels and much better brakes.

That said, you mustn't abuse the power and travel at speeds appropriate to your level of bodily protection.

They are things of addiction and that can't be appreciated unless you experience it.

I was a very good skateboarder in my youth so my angle is probably different to most. I still retain excellent balance and very decent physical agility even at my age. I probably feel far safer than most would on a scooter.

Rental legal, ownership illegal on road. That'll change, though.

I use mine off road 95% of the time. Easy round here.

Electric scooters will very soon be road-legal, but with strict limitations. From July 4 2020, it will be legal to ride a scooter on roads, cycle paths and cycle lanes, but only if it's part of a hire scheme. If you own an electric scooter yourself, it will be illegal to ride it anywhere except private land, with permission from the land-owner.

I've seen a few youths bombing about on them over the summer so I just wondered.
