'Who knitted your face and dropped a stitch?'

'As tight as a gnat's chuff'

'You look like you swallowed a pound and shat a fiver' (if smiling smugly)

Not exactly a saying, but remembered from a Les Dawson sketch:

'I cuddled up to my wife in bed, and whispered sweet nothings in her ear. Finally she responded with those three little words that every man longs to hear: "If you must ..."'

Small things amuse small minds, and
Brevity and incisiveness are underrated virtues.
Without music, powerboat racing, photography and a whole stack of other stuff that floats my boat, life is just a non stop procession of deadlines and bills.

On buying new footwear in Wales one could expect the compliment 'Nice boots them shoes' or similarly 'Nice coat that jacket'

When I had done something bad (such as 'posting' bangers through old people's letterboxes, on Bonfire night), and unfortunately had been caught, my dad used to say: 'Pick yer windae!'
