We have many wonderful and amusing expressions in the English language - I'm sure all other languages have their own as well - a couple of my favourites are
- from building/engineering sites in Sussex, I assume it was local due to it's country-ish feel, shoddy tradesmen and engineers were often described by one (fussy) old boy as 'rough as a badger's @rse'
- a graphic image but used in the pub and drawing room alike 'you can't polish a turd'.
When trying to make something rough look acceptable I often say (not to the customer) "You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter".
Said of someone with less than film star looks: "He looks like someone set this head on fire, then put it out with a cricket bat".
A couple of Asian builders in Preston drive a van with the slogan "You've had the Cowboys, now try the Indians".
