If you are after a more analogue sound from the Denon, with no digital artefacts, then I would suggest that you try the Caiman SEG. If you are indeed in London, you can pick one up from me and bring it back if it doesn't make a substantial improvement over the Denon.

Hi Stan, thanks for the offer which I’ll take you up on.Have been using a musical fidelity E60 as a transport with a DAC in the Box and fancied a change. The Denon 3910 came along at £50 in mint condition and I’ve been using it both as a stand-alone and with the DITB......will PM you to discuss. Thanks Dee

I had been underwhelmed by the Denon and then when I tried to play some CD-R’s it failed to read them.
I’d just brought a brand new double Cd of Dee Dee Warwick and it failed to read these.I scrambled to find my invoice to confirm I’d paid by PayPal...yes!..all clear. Then I saw it under a stack of CDs..a lens cleaner
disc. I whacked it in and voila ..problem solved. It was now reading anything and everything I threw at it,
and as for the music.Weighty, detailed but not cold....very pleased......still fancy trying it with a dac ..So if anybody can help it would be much appreciated..

I have yet to hear any DVD player outperform a dedicated CD player, transport so I am not that surprised you are feeling underwhelmed. Being frank unless you have deep pockets I would suggest an all in one player and not pursue the separates route. Others mileage will vary of course.

The DVD 3910 is an all in one player ...
