If you are using JRiver just for audio then yes it does seem better. But if you wish to stream vids locally or remotely then Plex is hard to beat as it has its roots in video stuff (xbox etc). JRiver added video as an afterthought and their recognition of end playing devices is clunky at best. I watch vids via Plex on devices such as the TV, iPad, android phones, computers etc. Just install Plex server where you have your vids and then install Plex players on whatever device you want to.
