Well she sure capitalised on it, that song must have earned her a few thousand bucks, if not millions!

Not from me, don't even have Ladies Of The Canyon. Blue was her masterwork IMO. There was magic in the air when they made that one. And nowdays people think Adele is good.

I don't know. It just seems to me that today it is all contrived whereas back then it was just the outpourings of really talented people and the difference is pretty marked to me.

There's plenty talent it's just not getting picked up. The studios prefer their trusted formula music guaranteed to make money.
The fact it's pish is down to general public being prepared to accept the shite

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I think you need the right times, the right culture and the right attitude. When they all come together you get great new music. They haven't come together for a long time now and it might never happen again.

You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter...

There really isn't much quality in the mainstream these days, Max Bygraves must be turning in his grave.
