Default Reel to reel on Youtube

My Android phone drew my attention to this

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KHS...ature=youtu.be

27 mins. Lots I knew and lots I didn't. Worth a watch, if you have the time.

When I was a teenage my father bought a 1/2 track domestic reel to reel machine. Mono only and 3 3/4 in per sec only. All valves of course! It was branded Elizabethan, and a lot of design and engineering corners were cut!

The church organist had a Grundig, just up market of the Elizabethan. My music teacher sometimes brought his own Ferrograph to school - the late 1950s model which looked very industrial. By the time I was 17 I was on the technical staff of the University of York Physics Department. They (we) had the new brushed aluminium Ferographs which looked very smart next to the Tektronix oscilloscopes - and still all valves!

    Different world!

But this Youtube I found informative. Sad that the sound quality of reel to reel recorders was progressively depreciated, but that's the economics of the business.

No (although I'd have loved it to be), it's friend's business, which he's absolutely superb at. We've got a few of his (original Victorian) stained-glass doors in our house

This is one you can see in our kitchen:

Domestic stained glass is becoming more popular.

    Hand made tiles next?

A lot of the Victorian terrace and townhouses close by us have decorative panels, above the bay window or either side of the front door. They are all different. I suppose it was a cheap way to differentiate and give character to homes. I have not been in any, but I guess quite a few still have original floor tiles.

But aren't we way off topic?

Yes Reel 2 Reel is becoming more popular again with the resurgence of the analogue sound
I am a bit of a tapehead myself and it is the most expensive and most inconvenient music source out there but its the best IMO so there
