I've twice walked into local pubs in weird, obscure, out of the way places in England and literally had the music stop and everyone turn to look at me with that 'Who the …. is this ….?' look.

Really Olympic speed record one pint-and-on stuff. I mean I'm talking Wicker Man / Children Of The Corn time. But the music on the juke box just finishing both times, that was weird and really did not help. One of those situations I'd already seen in films before it actually happened in real life to me. The second time it was just 'FFS'. That was in north Nottinghamshire, possibly the strangest place on earth.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

Ah. Well there you go. The people there all look related and banjo playing is popular.

I have a theory about some of these 'out in the sticks' places...

The local women tend to be pleasant and really friendly, but the men view you with suspicion and hostility. Both sexes see you as potential new blood, bringing something new to the gene pool thus reducing the likelihood of pointy-headness in the next generation. This is only important to the women though, the men just see you as competition.

I've got to ask, what's a puggy? Is that Scottish dialect for farmer's wife?

My vote for strangest place on Earth would go to Portland in Dorset. It's the only place I've felt was actually haunted.

Really? 2008 seems an odd choice of year. What changed specifically for the worse then?

The global financial crash, caused by irresponsible and unbridled greed, with perpetrators getting away with it all.

OIC. But surely 2008 was simply the culmination of the financial recklessness of both individuals and governments over the previous decade or so?
