Ok I'll try one more time in a different way.
1. Find someone who can give you some FLAC files. Then copy them to a folder on your mac.
2. Download VLC and install it in your Mac (it is free, gratis, nothing to pay etc. I guess you know how to install something on your mac).
3. Connect up your DAC to your mac.
4. Start up VLC, point it to the folder (as in 1 above).
5. Press play.
If you are really brave and have some CDs just rip the CDs to FLAC using VLC (see above - free, gratis, nothing to pay).

It is FLAC not FLACK.
Don't get hung up researching - just grab some flac files and copy them to a folder on your mac.
If all your friends only have macs and have no idea what a flac file is ask them if they have any alac files which is Apple's version of flac. But forget aac files which itunes uses.

Mac to DAC via Toslink or USB is the simplest way. I just don't understand all the Room/RPI/etc stuff and nothing I've read suggests it's easy to just plug in and play.
I had good results from the M2TECH DAC from the laptop. Just do your research because it wouldn't work with Windows 10.
It's a minefield mate.
