I've used a Decca London in a damped Mission 774 and it's a great combination. But not a straightforward one as the Decca cartridge mounting block is threaded, as is the 774 arm head, so one set of threads or the other has to be drilled out. Fortunately, one of my Mission arm tubes has a head block that is drilled through, allowing bolts down into the cartridge mounting threads..

. I'm wedded to Decca cartridges now but I'm still looking for the ultimate tonearm for them - was considering a Graham Phantom so would be interested to hear your thoughts on the two you owned.

I have had few Graham Tonearms over the years going back to the 1.0 than a 2 and 2.2 a few phantoms and a phantom supreme and a Elite and still have a phantom 111 that I am about to sell.

I quite like them but have found the sample variation great and not so great build quality so would only buy new and expect the dealer to send back if not right the Elite and phantom 111 are great arms very open and great air and space, I still like sme arms again a bit hit and miss the good thing with sme after sales and easy to get sorted out sme are superb to deal with. I have the axiom arm that works well with the Decca london reference I have but hardly use also my V-12 sounds great too.

I made a new arm tube with an adaptor to use the Decca head. I also have a C4E on a standard Mission arm wand (no drilling required).

How old is your V-12? did you buy it new? again comes down to sample. You have a lovely turntable will certainly be a interesting combo with the V-12.
Thanks for expanding on your thoughts. Big and powerful sounding is a good description of the TTS-8000. As you say it should be interesting to hear the Sony/V-12 combo. I bought my V-12 from a dealer a couple of months ago. The story was that the original owner bought it for a project that never came to fruition and so the arm was never mounted or used. It certainly looks totally mint. I'm not sure of its age but it has a 59xxx serial number so must be relatively recent. I should be getting the plinth in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that my V-12 is a good example and I get a good outcome in terms of SQ.

You are lucky in a sense you don't have another V-12 to compare so should be fine and am sure you will love your new turntable. I am currently considering a new turntable as I might be downsizing my house so will have some spare funds. I heard a vintage Rockport system 11 le turntable the other day against my Micro seiki I was blown away but lets see the dealer is considering selling, he's a sme specialist too.

That's a rare find. Good luck with the prospective purchase. I hope it works out.

Ah, I know precisely the dealer you refer to. As you are probably aware, he actually has three, or four, Rockports!

9 of different types when I was there recently. But he is very reluctant to sell. He has a very special rebuilt belt drive system ii le that we are in talks about lets see what comes of it. I purchased a sme 30/12 from him in 2009

He can't be that successful if he's reluctant to sell his wares. Bit like an alcoholic landlord!
