There is a potential for this to be rather like Brexit. The votes cast and most finding the result not entirely satisfactory (whichever way it goes).

Wow - amazing that someone's actually considered my position, and that of the rest of the mod team, who have to moderate the crap!

Thanks, Malcolm. It comes with the territory, though. I'm sure that if we do allow political discussion to continue, folks will be adult about it in future

Civilized discussions about politics where people respect other points of view can be had. But it takes a bit of work .
I agree. Today it's politics, and tomorrow it will be <insert any subject>?

E.g. -- I recall that not long ago in the coffee thread a fellow got over-torqued about an espresso machine, for Pete's sake! I think he banned himself, but it could just as easily been an mod-enforced ban for all the poo he was flinging. Come to think of it, he probably took himself to the penalty box because he'd have been put there by the mods soon enough anyway. All in all, I think the mods here do a great job keeping an eye on pretty much every thread, no matter what the subject. No need to single out politics as needed extra vigilance.

There's only one thing in Marco's life that's getting harder, thanks to his collection of Ann Summers catalogues.
