Might explain the portion sizes at my local Chinese takeaway. Me and Anita often share, as there is too much for one person.

Yes absolutely, and I've no intention of telling the proprietor this - don't want to spoil a good thing.

Lol - I think they'll know full well, as it'll all be costed out and factored into the equation, for securing your repeat custom. The profit margins in the takeaway food business are excellent (I know this from experience, as my parents ran fish & chip shops for years), so the cost of any 'excess food' can easily be absorbed.

The reality is that if a food takeaway business is being run properly (and profitably), then there is no valid reason not to give customers more food than most of them will eat in one meal, knowing that if the quality is good, they'll soon be back for more, which they're unlikely to do if they're left feeling 'shortchanged'...

Our local Indian takeaway offers a deal whereby, for an extra £1.65 (baring in mind that most of their main curries are under £6, as standard), you can 'go large' with the main curry, whether it be chicken, lamb, veg or whatever, and you get an extra medium-sized container, jam-packed FULL of whatever curry it is you've ordered - baring in mind too that their standard containers are twice the size of the ones that the likes of rice normally comes in, and they're also filled to the brim!

So for less than £8, you're getting a huge container full of (top-notch) curry, plus an extra medium-sized one. Therefore, with rice (which is similarly plentiful) and a Nan bread, there's usually enough food for me, for THREE meals, never mind two!

And clearly it's profitable, as they've been doing it here for years

Yep cigs have gone....did it for a week and gave away half the pack, finally giving the rest of them to a random bloke in the pub

Couldnt taste them in the end (and these were benson Gold) wasnt getting much out of them and definately wasnt enjoying them. All it did was make the back of my lungs feel iffy.

Peer pressure eh? I will just stick to the booze and horse tranquilizers...only joking

That reminds me of a TV programme I saw a while ago, where there was this young bloke who took horse tranquilisers (ketamine) recreationally.

Anyway, he was asked what his normal dosage was, then they gave that amount to a horse (obviously the horse was being prepped for some procedure, otherwise that would be just cruel)… and the horse went down like a sack of shit. The bloke was astounded, and vowed never to take the stuff again, but you just know he would be bragging about it in the pub that night.

ketamine is technically an anesthetic not a horse tranquilizer ... it is used also for an antidepressant too but in much smaller doses ... vets do use it as well as they do many human drugs.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
