Finally started fettling my Leak 3090s yesterday.

    Work in progress:

Upper cabinets as-bought with wrong tweeters bodged in

Out with this crappy bass driver/input wiring!

Crossover out - surprisingly minimalist, especially when compared to the earlier 2075, which had about three times as many components!

Wiring changed, correct tweeters fitted and sat outside for the teak oil to dry off. Just need to grab some hardware from work today to re-fit the handles which have pulled out of the left hand cabinet, then they're going back together for testing and sale.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Matching mine, now.
Mine were equivalently upgraded. I wonder how many are left.
Hadn't realised the cross-over was so simple, though I do have the diagram of the upgrade/new modern components.
Will have a look next time I turn the drivers-as I believe the magnets succomb to gravity over time and need turning.
Am I right? A visitor once regaled my (glazed eyed) wife with this info about the original Sandwiches.

I used 1.5mm sq. mains cable which worked very nicely in my old 2075s.

I’ve heard about using CAT 5/6 cable for speakers before and assumed it was a joke, as the CAT cable we use for industrial communications at work is perfectly standard stuff, but has cores that are as skinny as bell wire! Am I missing something?

    CAT6 wire? A bit like multi-strand?
    I hope....as I use it!
DNM wire is pretty thin too....

    No, your not missing anything.

Used braided cat5 Ethernet cable as speaker cable in previous systems and it sounded great.
Multiple strands mean large csa, and coppers high purity.
    Cable made to this recipe:
    https://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/triple_t_e.html
Cable sounded fab, but due to its characteristics not suitable for every amp.
Using different cable nowadays after changing my gear.

Current monkey coffins are internally wired with cat5, just wondered if there was any mileage it swapping it out, and if it was worth the hassle.

I have finally had a chance to check out the Leak 3090s.

I plonked them roughly in the right place in the lounge, connected up a Yamaha CD-M77 CD player and AV-M99 amplifier and sat down for a quick listen.

I’m still here two and a half hours later.

They are really very good. No, scratch that - they’re bloody superb. Midrange is just magnificent - vocals are smack bang centre stage and project out beautifully; treble is gloriously clean and smooth (unlike the old 2075s!) and bass is big, brawny and effortless.

All in all, it’s a disaster. This was a quick makeover and then I need to sell them as they’re taking up room I don’t have and the funds from them are already earmarked. I didn’t want to like them and I certainly didn’t want to absolutely love them.

    Oh poo...
