The Armstrong circuit designs were criticised by some, but I always thought the 5 series and 6 series sounded just fine.

I like vintage gear, had my mid-seventies Cambridge P60 on last night driving the KEF Corellis, it sounded really sublime.

If you like British amps of that era Dan, look out for a Lustraphone LP100. You might like that.

The other advantage with older Quad gear is that it really holds it's resale value, you're usually able to get a 'free' demo if you want it. I sold a 34 'spares/repairs' (it had lost a channel) for what I paid for it when it was fully working!

    Hi Roy

Yep they do hold good value the 34 just had 9 logic chips & 16 caps replaced and is owned by me and the 405 my dads that has had new OP amps too though he was using a 33 but its getting on a bit now and showing signs age - still in the collection we have 2 of them but vary rarely used nowadays...

Most Quad gear does hold good value sounds very very good.

Unfortunately not so for the modern stuff, dropped a couple of hundred quid when I sold my Elite Monoblocks, maybe cos they're not made in the UK now?
