    Default Unterminated cable

I want to make up a couple of interconnects possibly 2 pairs at 1m each. Any recommendations or sources, had a look on the interne5 auction site but didn’t really see anything. Nothing at ridiculous prices

Ridiculously high (expensive), or ridiculously low (cheap)?

    1. RG316/u Use 2 lengths per side, just use the core rather than the screen.

Why? True you will halve the capacitance per unit length, but the screen is silver plated copper, whereas the core is plated steel.

To the other cables you have suggested that are available 'off the drum', I would add (amongst others)

    RG 58C/U, or RG 58C/U-01
RG 59C/U (particularly for digital interconnects)
    RG 174
    RG 223
    URM70 (also for digital)
    Gotham GAC-1
    Gotham GAC-2 (for balanced interconnects)
    Van Damme XKE

    and

Ive tried various configs of RG316/u and it sounded best that way. I intend to try doubling up the amounts again when I get some more. The RG316/u I bought used silver plated, copper clad steel as conductor.

At audio frequencies the 'skin effect' doesn't have much of an effect, especially with a conductor diameter as small as that of RG316, so the current density is virtually constant across the diameter of the centre conductor. That is, virtually all of the current flows through the steel core and very, very little of it flows in the silver plate and copper cladding.

Indeed, which makes me think, is skin effect an issue when it comes to RF riding on cables?

Presumably because this is how one of the UK's bedroom manufacturers chooses to use it. However, as you say, the shield is actually a better conductor at audio frequencies.

Well not ridiculously high just a source or recommendation for general good cable at say £5. - £15 or miore if it’s something really spe@cial. But I am not a believer that expensive means good. I just make an opinion once it’s in place, but not been doing diy for a while and looking for good suppliers or products
