Default Black and White power lead cable wires

I'm replacing the two pin plug from an amp to three pin.

There are two wires only one black and one white

Which one is positive ie: equivalent to usual red / brown live fitted to right and which is negative ?

I assume you are talking about the mains lead.
As it is only two wire it is probably a double insulated unit so it really doesn't matter which is live or neutral.

With a 3 wire connection including a green/yellow as the earth conductor, the black would be live and the white neutral. Common on the continent.

Hi yes it's the mains lead out of an amp.
I cut off the two pin to fit three pin and revealed two wires inside the mains lead, one black one white

Also the power cable from the amp has a solid white line down one side. This is the side that the white wire runs along.

I dont want to fit the the UK three pin and get it wrong if ie: does the white or black go to the left or right when I fit the plug ? ?

Is the item of US origin? The US colour code for mains cables is:

Black - live (and hence will go to the right (fused) terminal of a UK 13A plug)

White - neutral (and will go to the left terminal).

Fitted the plug to this configuration last night Barry and happy to report, nothing blown up, no sparks, no flames
