I'm Andrew.
I understand and sympathise with your viewpoint.
I wouldn't splash out on flash cars if my lottery numbers came up, and I wouldn't be chucking money at expensive watches and the like either.
If I'd shelled out on an all Bryston system then a remote might just be the required thing.
Chris
Common sense isn't anymore!
I'd sell the Bryston and buy a system from someone who isn't going to stick it to me for the remote. NAD, probably...
Seriously though, I don't care that it sells for £400, I don't care that there are people who would pay £400. I'm not trying to make any moral or political point about conspicuous consumption and Veblen goods. I don't care about that one way or the other. I just find it really amusing that a remote control costs £400.

I'm Dave.
I was under the impression that this is a forum where members comment, chat, advise and generally partake in conversations. As a "dealer" I actually pay to be here and so I consider I have the right to make comments. Also, as a "dealer" I have an insight into what things cost and markups, so my comments are as valid as any other.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
