No worries... I've done too much tube-rolling over the years (especially with ECC83s) not to have got a decent handle on the sonic characteristics of those from various manufacturers!

And you're right, certain ones suit certain types of music better than others, which is why now you've scratched this particular itch, the lid on your phono stage is destined to be off more than it's on!

    Have fun!

    Marco.

Thanks to Clive of this parish, an Aurorasound Vida VI6 has arrived. I’m hoping that it will be an upgrade to my Luxman valve phono stage and step ups.

Today Angus, ‘Phonomac', delivered an SP10 motor unit which he has totally rebuilt from top to bottom. I couldn’t be happier with it. Thanks Angus. Top man

One of the greats. What was involved in the rebuild?

Angus recapped the deck and power supply and rebuilt the bearing. I had the chassis repainted by Lee at Acoustand but I think Angus can also take care of that.

Angus is currently fettling my TTS-8000. I'm really enjoying the Technics but it's been so long since I heard the Sony it's hard to compare them. It'll be interesting when the Sony returns. Certainly I could live with either.

They're both top flight decks from the peak era of deck design, IMO.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
