I know that correct tamping is important, for really good espresso results, so I don't mind spending proper money on the likes of the OCD, *if* it's no-brainer better, or a fancy calibrated pressure one.
What's your view, or what would you recommend, tamper-wise, up to around £150?

i would wait til you get it and measure the inner size as they often aint the size they say, for a start.. a normal decent quality tamper is fine imo. heavy tamp pressure is ok if the coffee is right grind and machine can handle it, which most cant. trial and error is best.. dont over finely grind coffee initially. then tamp it with reasonable pressure.. maybe 15lbs.. the adjust from there til you get it right.
book says mine is x size but an x size tamper doesnt fit, hence id measure it first. 20, to 40 should get you a nice one

Ok, noted on the measuring thing. I remember you mentioned that before, so will defo measure the inner size first, or perhaps the size of the plastic tamper that comes with the machine, as I presume that'll have been made to fit it?
What do you think of that 'HI OCD' one? I love how it works, and if it fits ok, surely that would give very consistent results, as indeed would a calibrated device?
