From limited use, they seem like a really handy device, capable of making a good coffee.

A latte is traditionally served like this, in a taller glass:

If I filled that latte glass up with the coffee in either of the cappuccino cups above (full), the amount of liquid would roughly be the same

I thought that it was the Latte is what was traditionally served at breakfast time Italian households

Yes, that's correct. The only difference is that latte is milkier than cappuccino (the ratio of milk to coffee is higher), but in Italian households either would be served with breakfast in a large wide-mouthed cup, such as shown above. The tall latte glass I posted a picture of would only be used in bars and cafes

Basically, in poorer households, a milkier coffee would be taken, as milk is cheaper than coffee beans, so making proper cappuccino, which uses more coffee, would be more expensive and considered a luxury.

I wouldn't worry. It is a multi-gazillion pound industry. Money talks. If it really is an issue it will be taken care of.
