I thought that it was the Latte is what was traditionally served at breakfast time Italian householdsNot really. It might be in France, but in Italy (especially in households) it's served during the morning in a traditional wide-mouthed cup, so folks can dip their thick, crusty bread in!

Yes, that's correct. The only difference is that latte is milkier than cappuccino (the ratio of milk to coffee is higher), but in Italian households either would be served with breakfast in a large wide-mouthed cup, such as shown above. The tall latte glass I posted a picture of would only be used in bars and cafes
Basically, in poorer households, a milkier coffee would be taken, as milk is cheaper than coffee beans, so making proper cappuccino, which uses more coffee, would be more expensive and considered a luxury.
