time will depend to an extent on the grinder. mine is about 14 secs... usually something like 20 grams give or take 20% .. some vary on size and some folk overfill them. there needs to be enough space left for expansion etc. usually leave 3mm gap or so.. maybe 4, but it depends .. often you can tell if its too full as you get a big imprint of the head screw etc... too shallow and the puck can get too wet

That's a shame, I'm currently using Rave Columbia Suarez which I am enjoying. I've not tried the El Carmen. I use a double shot in a mug with nearly half the mug being steamed milk and find it has plenty of flavour.Originally Posted by Audio Al

I have an ECM too. The standard baskets are ok. Do you have a set of scales? If yes, then start weighing out about 20g of coffee for the double.
Then adjust the grind down until the machine begins to clog, and no coffee comes out. At that point, back the grinder off a couple of notches.
You should be aiming for a double shot in about 30 to 35 seconds.
You should be aiming for between a 40g to 80g shot in that time (brew ratio 1:2 to 1:4). I prefer 40g out for 20g coffee.
