And now for something rather different from my usual recommendations:
Miles Davis, Bitches Brew. Very experimental and ground-breaking, basically the first jazz-rock album. If you're in the mood to just let the music carry you away for a while, sit back, relax and follow it, you may find it's quite brilliant. Track 1, Pharoah's Dance, was written by Joe Zawinul of Weather Report fame -- very distinctive signature sound there.
