Being a complete Grant Green nut, i purchased this rather expensive lost LP
(came out last Record Store Day, amid mucho hypo)
I have to say it's very very disappointing, to the point, I'm actually taking it back to where I got it, (it was a used purchase) I don't give up on many Lps, but this is IMHO pretty sub standard for such a creative talent. When 2 sides of the double lp are called 'Medley', i should have smelt a rat. Unearthed hidden gems are very rarely 'gems'

Avoid, there are so many brilliant Grant Green Lps in the cannon, this is not one of them!

Can't stop listening to these guys lately:

Tedeschi Trucks Band, Revelator. This won a Grammy for best blues album.

The band has a country blues rock sound which I really like. Their latest studio album is especially so:

This album won a Blues Award for Rock-Blues Album of the Year.

The lead singer, Susan Tedeschi, has a fantastic voice...sounds a lot like Bonnie Raitt to my ears. Lead guitar is her husband, Derek Trucks -- solid playing!

Blues guitar is not really an area I know too much about, but I love this guys playing.
He really is fantastic. The slide stuff he does hits the right spot for me.

There is some great videos out there where he is jamming with BB king and John Mayer ( no slouch either ) and when Trucks plays, the looks on the faces of King and Trucks is just great.

Here is a taste of his soloing.

Hey, thanks Brian. I didn't know about those videos. I will check them out later...

And, yes, Trucks' playing is outstanding. Fluid, meaty, solid stuff. Between that and Tedeschi's singing (that voice!) -- quite the combination.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
