Nina Simone...at Town Hall. This was her 4th album recorded in 1959 in New York. She is ably supported by Al tootie Heath on drums and Jimmy Bond on bass.
Possibly her best ever recording and the while experience at time must have been superb for all including her as you hear her whoop with delight at times. Some of the songs were rerecorded in studio with original applause added etc.(for clarity)

    Dexter Gordon - Gettin' Around
Blue Note Records May 28-29, 1965. Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs.

    Dexter Gordon - tenor saxophone
    Bobby Hutcherson - vibes
    Barry Harris - piano
    Bob Cranshaw - bass
    Billy Higgins - drums

Dexter’s last major release for Blue Note, after which he moved to Europe, to Copenhagen, where he could continue to play modern jazz.

(6 feet 6 inches) Long Tall Dexter was incredible!.
A story from a journo/broadcaster on the BBC, once said, during his set at Ronnie Scott’s in London, in the middle of his pianist soloing, Dexter left the stage, walked over to the bar at the side of the venue where the said chap was standing enjoying the set.

Dexter approached the bar next to the chap. Star-struck but playing it very cool the said chap cooly turned and asked Dexter what he was drinking?..... The drink ordered, Dexter thanked him, drank the Liquor, headed back to the stand, whilst the pianist was just concluding his solo, Dexter picked his horn up, clipped it in the neck support and hit the bridge of the tune, BANG!
All without missing a beat and totally silk smooth. DAMN!

    love that yarn.

and just for fun.. Dexter on bike with horn...just before he solo'd on the horn and fell off the bike.
He was training for a part time circus performance. Life of a Jazz Musician is tough!
