Not quite sure where to post this - but as Discogs describe it as 'Jazz Funk', it's going in here.

Grant, not sure you have this one but it is VVG IMHO, I picked up a new copy at a reasonable price after reading a review which said Diana Krall when making this album specifically paid attention to the mic'ing and mixing so that her voice was clear and that all its nuances were picked up in the recording of each song. Apart from her voice there is some beautiful musicianship on the album, and it is impeccably recorded.

Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

    Adrian,

Have you ever seen the Arena film the BBC made called 'Amy Winehouse - The Day She went to Dingle'? Amy Winehouse performing for the BBC live sessions at Dingle in Eire, December 2006.

It's very good - shame you can't get it on DVD.

No I haven't, would like to see it. My friend gave me the BBC Live for a Christmas present, I remember seeing her on Jools Holland at Christmas. It was is such a shame that she did not get to grips with her problems and she is not still here now, a huge talent lost, but then it seems that often bright stars burn out quickly, I think of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, Ian Curtis to name a few.

True, but often because of lifestyle excess: drink, drugs, and other hedonistic habits.

Hedonistic makes it sound like it's all about having fun but it usually involves addiction and mental health issues too. To get to the point they were at is a long downward spiral.

Hedonistic: "engaged in the pursuit of pleasure; sensually self-indulgent."

So regularly, and only, eating food containing too much salt, or fat, can lead to heart attacks - hedonistic maybe, but I wouldn't call it an addiction.

Sandy Denny (of Fairport Convention) died from falling down the stairs; but she was kinown to have a drink problem, so might have been drunk at the time. It wasn't the drink that killed her, it was the fall.

Yes but we're not talking about Elvis here I meant drink and drugs to the point it kills you, usually the result of underlying causes not because people just don't care and want to enjoy themselves.
