“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

It's a myth that it can be too cold for snow. As long as there is moisture in the air and conditions are such that the snow can fall, then it will snow.

Very cold air (say -40degC) will often be too dry for snow, but not too cold.

We still have snow on our lawn from last week, it looks very pretty
Lol - love it! Different lifestyles, mate. I would've felt the same as you 20 years ago, when such things mattered (as I was driving around 1000 miles a week, sometimes more), but now I just like it how I like it, and if it's January, I want to see some proper snow!

It occurs to me that Trump may end up being regarded as culpable in the death of the police officer who died as a result of the insurrection he promoted at the Capitol (I do wish they'd learn to spell Capital properly). I'd not be surprised if his opponents are weighing up the possibilities. Mind you, he could still pardon himself, depending on which authority might want to prosecute.

I wish they would just learn to spell!

They could invoke Amendment 25, which declares him unfit to remain in office. If successful, it would prevent him standing as an independent candidate in 2024.

I don't think there is any chance whatsoever of him being held culpable.

The whole thing with Trump has been hysteria since the second he was elected. It was going to be the end of the world. As it was, and as I said would happen. 4 years goes by and he accomplishes nothing, just like pretty much every Pres before him. It was just the sole fact of him being President that offended the sensibilities of rich middle class lefties. God forbid!

You look at that footage there was no more than 500 protesters tops. If they'd had adequate security to begin with nothing would have happened. Can you imagine a crowd of 500 people getting into the Houses of Parliament? Never happen. The yanks are just bloody useless at this sort of thing. All the gear, no idea.

Maybe, but I'll bet we'll hear of it being contemplated.
