Lovin' ya retro phone, Macca! It looks a bit complicated to use, though....

You can still dial but you have to press the buttons really hard, ideally with a biro or something, and that was getting a little tedious.
Quite right. That's why I'd never give up our landline. Aside from anything else about networks, it's so easy to forget to charge a mobile phone, and if you're using it all the time (especially performing tasks that drain the battery), it's difficult to maintain a constant high level of charge, unless you're very vigilant. Plus also easy to misplace the charger. And you may only have the one mobile phone.

Therefore, unless you're careful, it wouldn't be difficult for one day, especially if you live on your own, to need the phone for a GENUINE (possibly life-threatening) emergency, and discover that the battery is nearly flat and you can't find the charger! Don't dismiss such a scenario, as it could easily happen...

So no, for that reason, and also the fact that you often lose signal with mobile phones when you're talking to someone at home, and have to wander around to escape black spots, plus voices sound so thin and tinny that everyone sounds like robots [landline handsets are generally much clearer], we'll always have a landline.

The biro thing is really funny, and typically *you*! Me? I'd have replaced it as soon as it was faulty!

Actually the recent cellphones are astonishingly good in terms of the sound quality - in 'phone terms anyway. I was very surprised at the clarity when I got a 'modern' cell after almost ten years with the same one.

I did replace the landline 'phone before when it started to become difficult to dial on it. I think I spent ten quid on a second-hand one off of ebay. It packed up about a month after I got it so I put the old one back in and sat a biro next to it and the problem got shoved down my list of priorities by other things.

I did have a look at some new ones in Maplins a few months later but they were both expensive and looked crappy so I shelved the idea. I might use the thing maybe twice a year so it was hardly a pressing issue.

I've never had a problem with losing the signal or having to wander about to get a connection on a mobile in a long time. I think about 1996 or '97 was the last time I had that issue and that was when they were still rolling out the network.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

Good stuff... The only time I'm near Dartford is when on the way down to Dover in the car on holiday, and doing the crossing!

Fair enough, but not in my experience. Del's brand new Huawei has a superb camera on it, but voices sound considerably tinnier than on the landline handset, when I use the speakerphone. Stands to reason really, as (just with hi-fi) you can't beat the laws of physics. Both the size of the speaker and the enclosure on the landline handset is much bigger.

There's no comparison in the sound quality really.

Lol - no worries. It suits your gaff, though!

Different here then, and I'm not exactly in an area where there's poor coverage. On the rare occasions I use my mobile in the house, quite often when I'm holding it listening to someone, I've got to change ears, move my head or position in the chair, or get up altogether and walk around, to stop them cutting out. Does my nut in!
