Not big on those either, as they tend to be rather stodgy. I've experienced exceptions to that rule though, in some good pubs, where the Scotch eggs were homemade, light, and had a lovely runny yolk inside

    Yes. I like those.

It's all the chewy bits of gristle and fat that put me off pork pies. Not to mention the suspicious looking 'jelly'.

No "chewy bits of gristle and fat", nor "suspicious looking jelly" in the pork pies I eat.

Scotch eggs with runny yolks, now that does sound off-putting!

Why would 'which bits' matter? It's all animal corpse.

because a proper made pie...has only the best cuts of meat in it.....supermarket bought shite is full of gristle, veins, connective tissue and any other ingredient that will bulk out the content that isn't lean meat...a proper pork pie is delicious..as is a proper steak pie...or mince pie...made by someone who is honest....

Some must like them. There are plenty on sale. Glad I don't eat them

The nearest I get is a chicken pie. Had a Tesco roast chicken pie this week. Wasn't bad at all, proper short pastry, plenty of decent chicken pieces and a gravy that actually tasted like gravy. Yes, I know there'll be shortcuts in the recipe, but I wasn't disappointed.

The local butcher sells lovely steak & ale pies. I keep away from the supermarket pies.
