I'm still more of a red wine guy, rather than (any) fizz, but I like GOOD Champagne, and really good Champagne is the vintage variety, which is in a different league from the standard stuff. But you're talking upwards of £50 a bottle... One of our favourites is Pol Roger, and of course Dom Perignon. For pink, we like Veuve Clicquot rosé, or Perrier Louet Blason rosé.

Here's a tip, if you weren't aware of it already... If you like good Champagne, but dislike the price tag, then try some quality English sparkling white wine, produced via the same process. It can't officially be called Champagne, because it hasn't been produced in the Champagne region of France, *but* to all intents and purposes it's Champagne!

And if you go for an example from a small, specialist producer, it could be as good as some of the best French Champagnes, for a fraction of the price. It'll certainly be better than a bog-standard Moet, and likely cheaper, too!

Lol, ya not wrong, goes down easy but its effervescent nature means a quick rush into the blood stream and to the head

Some say a Champers has to be Brut / dry but I've had some gorgeous demi-sec champagnes.

The champagne houses do do them but you have to search them out.

Anyone I know who has told me they dont like champagne have always loved it demi-sec

Agree. Slightly off super dry is better overall. And yes Marco the English sparklers are excellent. I made homemade champagne at one time. It was damn good

We just bought a new cat bed for Alice, as for some reason she has disowned her old one.

I put it on the sofa, and next it an old hifi mag I was perusing. She stepped around the bed, and settled on the magazine. I really don't know what goes on in her head. The mag was open at a review for a Krell Duo 300 power amp. Next time she came over I had it open at an advert for Russ Andrews' products, but she couldn't settle. So it's back to Krell

Mia's a funny one, unlike most cats she will not sit in boxes and uses beds for a few days and then returns to the footstool. Even when she does use her bed she has trouble staying in it.

It's actually Steve's Alice who shows such good taste. Mia is rather taken with the sleeve to a John Barry album I'm listening to though, she knows quality.

Just about to decant the wine (and vintage port) and slowly bring it up to the correct temperature... Nearly all done, bar cooking the goose!
