Ah I see... I wouldn't know, as I've never been in these places and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I just wish the government would introduce a scheme to educate the masses on how to eat cheaply, but also WELL. And it *can* be done. It would not only improve their physical health (and bank balance), but also mental health/well being, in terms of the satisfaction of having made the meals yourself and feeding yourself and family more healthily.

All that processed shite also fucks with your head, in terms of your body's reaction to the chemicals. It's just SO BAD on EVERY level!!

i admit to not having used them for some years, but when i did, it was pretty horrible stuff. think the cardboard packaging looked better. For cheap and quick soup if youve nowt much fresh, then emergency tinned veg works just fine. carrots especially. just mash them and fire into soup. have some good stock cubes(never cheap out on stock) even tinned new potatoes are ok in soup. Kibbled onion is useful to have in stock etc.
its all irrellevent if you can get the fresh stuff, but if you cant you can still make decent soup for very little

Although, I'm surprised you didn't include soup (or rice) in that - as a big pot of veg soup costs next to hee-haw to make and is very tasty and nutritious. Ditto pan-frying some chicken and rice.

So all the chavs then who feed themselves at McDonalds or Burger King obviously aren't struggling?

I'd argue that you've eaten (as outlined), when you were 'struggling', because you were educated enough to know that was the cheapest and best way to eat, whereas the dumb fucks in the same category just eat garbage 24/7, and often garbage which isn't that cheap!

What bearing does the alcohol content have on the cheapness of booze, and what's the motivation always to get drunk?

The last bit is a serious question, as I'm fundamentally not wired that way, so simply don't get the mentality.

    Marco.
If you can afford to eat at Burger King or Maccy D then you're not struggling.

Nothing to do with intelligence, if you don't have the money it just isn't an option you'd even consider. Take-away food of any kind that is, not just those two.

Booze - you have no money for hi-fi upgrades but nothing improves the sound of a system more than a drop of booze. No need to get drunk, just under the influence. A bottle of peach wine would last me three days and it was only about £1.50. Still an expense you had to account for though.

Here's a tip (some may cringe ). Deep fry tinned spuds! They come out really nicely .

Why eat that shite though, Geoff, in the first place?

I don't believe for one second that you can't afford to eat better, and I certainly know you can cook, as I've seen examples on the food thread! Sorry, no offence, but the only real excuse I can see then is laziness... Yet you're retired and so should have plenty of time on your hands to knock up some decent nosh

What's happened to all those lovely fresh salads you used to post pics of?
