No extra rubbish bags this week so the above statement will probably prove accurate

And now for something completely different:

The hinge on the toilet seat broke this morning. Popped out to a nearby building hardware store, and ten minutes later the seat and cover were replaced.

At last, my field of expertise! A bit clueless with hifi, but I know a good toilet seat when I sit on one. I got tired of annually replacing Anita's £10 bargain bogseats, so I went out and splashed out 30-odd quid on a Beamis jobbie. Six years later it's still going strong
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

They don't last any longer than say a £30 seat. I know to my cost, although the one we had was of a different colour. The problem is they are made of MDF, not a solid hardwood.

I think the base is pine, with a 'posh' hardwood veneer of choice, so still made of solid wood.

And besides, you know how long we've had our black and white bathroom for, with said seat (must be a good 15 years now) and it's still going strong... Plus, aside from that, wood is a damn sight warmer than plastic to put you bum on!

    Taken from the www.ukbathroomstore.co.uk website:

Construction: Lifestyle - Foil finish bonded onto MDF Realwood - Use natural real wood solid timber or veneers.

I've never found a loo seat too cold to sit on, unlike the electrically heated seats favoured by the Japanese. Horrible things - I always switched them off.

Yes, but what do they mean by "MDF realwood", which is somewhat of an oxymoron, and the description afterwards is a little ambiguous to say the least...

It doesn't really matter though as Del and I hate plastic [which might not feel 'cold', but isn't as comfortable to sit on as wood], and when you're spending the best part of £20k on a bespoke-designed bathroom, it seems somewhat churlish to quibble over an extra £100 for a bog seat!

MDF - medium density fibreboard. The fibres are wood, so they can get away with saying it is made from "real wood"

You won't get splinters in your bum with plastic loo seats; and they are easier to clean.
