Went down to the bright lights of Leek this morning, to collect a rather nice Atacama hifi rack (cheers Dave), got it set up without breaking anything, and Mrs. P actually likes it! That's a first, any changes I make usually just draw a groan, and she invariably uses her acceptance of these changes as a bargaining tool for her future wants.

Now all that gear has moved from my line of sight, the lounge looks less like Laskys and more like Currys 10 years ago. Now she says the telly looks lost and we need a bigger one. Who am I to argue?

I loved my Panasonic 42" plasma, had it for over 10 years and was still working like new when I changed to my current Samsung LED set, but boy do they eat the leccy! Well, that was my bargaining tool for a new one with my missus.

Lol... I always laugh at suff like that [if you were being serious]!

I can honestly say, hand on heart, that I've never needed to use a "bargaining tool" to convince Del of having something I wanted in the house, simply because we make ALL such decisions together, and more often than not we like the same things/have the same tastes.

The only time that changes is when we're choosing something that she knows much more about than me (such as the kitchen appliances we put in), in which case I largely leave her to it, although I still get a small say in matters - and vice versa, when it comes to things like TVs (size or style). Del had virtually no input in that (same with the home-cinema system), and was quite happy to leave that all to me.

I guess it's handy though that 90% of the time we like the same things, so arguments are rare

To be fair, Sue has instigated the last two TV upgrades, so yes I was joking, but it is true that an LED telly uses about 10% of the electricity a plasma does, so it’s a win win!

Del has probably learned, like the rest of us, that arguing is futile

Me and Mrs. P don't argue about buying choices and priorities, but through mutual respect we do discuss larger purchases before committing. We don't have bottomless pockets, and buying one thing usually comes at the expense of something else. I would never impose my will on her, and this works both ways

Ditto with us... It's one of the reasons why we've been happily married for nearly 28 years!

Christmas coming up and loads of charities on telly with their begging adverts. They pick the most miserable looking actors they can find for the 'sad cases' depicted and expect us to sympathise. Doesn't work if you ask me.

They're not all miserable looking - I don't know what the Salvation Army lady says at the end of their current advert, but the old guy sat next to her seems to find it hilarious I wonder if the government subsidise these ads, it would certainly be in their interests for us to give to these charities, gets them off their case.
