Fair enough... Not a nice trait though, and I'd suggest if a woman does that, then she cares far more about herself, than she does about her partner.

It always shocks me to hear about that sort of behaviour, because it shows that folk are getting married/having relationships with the wrong people, and not really getting together for the right reasons, more selfish ones, than actually wanting deep down to form a partnership based on mutual love and respect.

For me, that is the *ONLY* valid reason for two people to get married or begin a long-term relationship, so if you can't put a BIG tick in that box, then move on, and heaven forbid don't bring any kids into the world on the basis of that type of relationship, as they'll only end up suffering because of it...

Indeed... I don't get it though, as I'd rather be single than in an unhappy relationship with the wrong person.

No-one's forcing you to marry or go out with someone, so if you make the decision to do so, then consider it properly before going ahead (especially when you're legally committing yourself to someone in marriage) - and most importantly as soon as it's obvious that it's not working (after trying your best to make it work), get out and move on.

Life's too short to spend it being miserable with someone who patently doesn't love or respect you!

Lol - not sure who would be attacking you, but no worries. Yes there are lots of devious people out there, but if you've got any sense about you at all, you'll weed that out of them during the 'trial period'... Ah, so what's that then, I hear you say?

Well, if we're talking about marriage, then there's this thing called 'engagement', which is a vital part of the process, not to be skipped, before committing yourself to the 'main event', as it were.

My view is that no-one should commit to marrying someone without FIRST having lived with them under the same roof, for a year minimum, either officially engaged or not, but that period of time is absolutely VITAL, in order to get to know someone properly, and all their good and bad points, and to assess whether they're someone you could happily live with for the rest of your life.

And during that time, the 'deviousness' you speak of should raise its ugly head, and be recognised and dealt with, if you're any kind of decent judge of character... If not, then hell mend you.

Del and I lived together for 2 years before we got married, so we knew each other inside out, before committing ourselves to each other for life - and nearly 28 years on, we're still as happy together now, as we were then, partly because we did the proper 'groundwork', rather than simply rushing in and making a huge mistake!

For me, this is all basic common sense, so I honestly struggle to understand why so many people get it wrong
