I’m glad to say after reading recent pages of this thread that I know myself to be completely impervious to any subliminal messages.

Although I really fancy a Maccy D’s right now and have no idea why...

I disagree though that McDonalds don't use subliminal advertising. It comes in many different forms, as subtly as having the presence of their logo in an unexpected public place, or on TV, out with of one of their adverts. Stuff like that happens all the time. The point is though, if it's done right, you'll be unaware of it!

It lays dormant in your subconscious, and at some point later may inadvertently influence your buying decisions... Now, that's definitely my last comment on the subject!

    Marco,
It's a pity you've made your last comment on this subject my friend, but then this is my last word on it too.

Your posts have been uncharacteristically wordy, and I know you're frustrated about your point being missed, but I have to say that finding that point is not unlike studying a 'Where's Wally?' puzzle book

The part I've highlighted in bold: that's not subliminal advertising, it's called 'product placement'. It is increasingly being used in films and TV, ranging from McCann frozen foods in Emmerdale, to Audi cars in The Dark Night or Iron Man, I can't remember which. This is the advertisers' best chance as the traditional ad breaks are rarely seen these days, thanks to the ability for viewers to quickly skip past them.

Talking about product placement, I recently did a poo in the shape of a big letter 'M', but it still didn't persuade me to visit McDonalds

I don't subscribe to any brand loyalty or shop loyalty - I really don't care where I buy my HP sauce. And believe me when I tell you, that if HP started being shit I definitely would be looking elsewhere.

I don't buy HP out of habit, but because other brands (I've tried one or two) have been disappointing, and anyway my motto is if it ain't broke...

Yes, but that's just the latest 'buzz word'! So ask yourself, what potential effect could such "product placement" have on those who've seen it?

It subconsciously 'plants a seed' in their minds, with the purpose of predisposing them to buying said product at a later date... *Exactly* the same potential effect as subliminal advertising!!

Same end result, just different words.

Now THAT *IS* defo my last post on the subject!

I didn't realise there was a hierarchy of kitchen foil. How is basic kitchen foil different from a more expensive brand? I suppose you might get a longer roll.
Bacofoil is the brand name people recognise, but foil is foil, unless you're wrapping a huge turkey and need extra-wide foil. There's stuff where the basic version is shite (eg beer and gin), but Sainsbury's breakfast cereal is just as good as Kellogg's, to my taste.

Not really... Whilst I agree with your point in general [and you're right about turkey] and certainly don't believe in paying more just for a 'fancy name' (for ANYTHING), foil thickness can vary depending on who makes it, and sometimes how much it costs.

Admittedly, there's generally not much difference, in that respect, (if any) between 'Bacofoil' and the likes of Sainsbury's own. However, certain 'specialist' brands, such as this stuff from Lakeland, is genuinely thicker and stronger [and obviously that's better as it'll rip less easily], but you'll pay for it: https://i.ytimg.com/an_webp/ZZmWfvLG...iAUr6XCclJDX2A
