I need to replace the RCA cables on my Aiwa TT. Any tips on some quality cables that I can source ,as the fine very fragile wire on the originals , is severly testing my patience , in soldering new rca plugs on it !!

I have found a Gotham phono to phono cable . I like the quality wire it contains , and its a spare ,so I may well cut it in the middle and bare the ends (after putting some red and white heatshrink on to indicate which was which) and solder it in in place of the original.

You should maybe go on the DIY room Anto? Sounds like you are doing a complete rebuild on this thing.

Successfully repaired an electric drill today. Surprisingly easy as it was held together by screws, unusual these days as most domestic electrical good are deliberately designed not to be repairable.

Not so with a food blender/liquidiser, which had a broken switch. Whilst I could open up the base of the motor, the switch had been glued in place and could not be removed. So the whole lot had to be thrown away!

I got an electric hedge trimmer last year for a really good price, and got all of about 5 minutes out of it before cutting through the cable. Instead of my usual method (bodge) involving block connector and insulating tape, I thought I would be a smart arse and do it properly. I took the thing apart, intending to re-attach the now slightly shorter cable, but when I removed the last screw, a spring flew out of the gap and brought a few more unidentifiable bits with it.

After leaving it sulking in the garage for a few months I faced up to reality and launched it into the bin.

I'm pretty good at changing light bulbs and toilet rolls though.

I once swapped out the blower on a girlfriend's Mk3 Escort. Hooked up one I got from a wreck in a scrapyard and it worked first time. Couldn't believe it. That was the pinnacle of my electrical engineering career. Of course I never let on to my bird, just played it the old low key 'Any fool could do it' - Triple word score there lads.
