It's nothing new - remember the old "Batman cannot fly" message at the start of each show? Holy broken bones Batman!
I remember putting up a shelf in the garden shed when I was about 7, using wood, tools and nails I found lying around. When my father saw it all he said was 'Did you do that? It's not straight.'

My parents were fairly 'hands off' types though. If we were doing something other than bothering them it was all good as far as they were concerned.

The option isn't on the My Virgin Media site, mate. It's done via your V6 box.

So grab your remote control and hit the Home button, then scroll down to Help & Settings, then right to Parental Controls, and click OK (you'll need to have set up a PIN to start with, in order to make any changes), so enter your PIN and click OK.

That will take you to the Parental Controls menu. What you want is the 'Request a PIN to Watch Recordings' option, and to change the current setting (I presume from ON) to OFF.

    Job done!

I know it's not on the website, I couldn't find it on the menu on the V Box. Although I have now found it and disabled it so it's all good (hopefully).

Good stuff. No, it was Granty who mentioned My Virgin Media, which he probably just copied from a quick web search. Unfortunately, there's so much duff/outdated info around when attempting to address these issues.

I think we had a similar upbringing, my parents didn't really mind what I did, as long as I was doing it somewhere else. The one exception was when I "borrowed" some matches and set fire to half an acre of gorse bushes on a neighbouring farm, and the fire brigade had to come and deal with it. Dad was a bit "hands on" after that one

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

What a bloody awful experience. I had little supervision myself, but mum was generally very supportive when I was young.

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Ahh, that comes under the category of "don't shit on your own doorstep" - one piece of advice from mum which I was given very early on

If you were in the company of my mother you were nagged continuously. She could nag you non-stop for over two hours without repeating herself. It was generally wise to minimize any contact.

My father got the brunt of it though since he couldn't really do that. Although I think over the years he had developed the ability to zone it out.
