Joe, interesting comment. What you say makes some sense. I'd have to do a little more poking around with respects to what your claiming i.e. more/less gain with the ECL82/ECC82 valves. You really need someone like Alan or Glenn to discuss the implications of the different valves in the circuit. This could be something I need to look into.

The Valve System Pt VIII - More rolling....
When call me a copy cat but I bought a pair of these

I'd never seen them before Marco mentioned them so I thought what the hell. They should arrive soon.
The Croft is now getting modded again, but not until next year. It looks like I'll be getting another box to add to the rackbut things should hopefully be improved. I can't see things moving forward with this until March 2021 at the earliest but I can start and compile a "wish" list of mods.
The 301 may also get some more attention in the form of a chassis stiffener / damper and a new plinth specifically made from Permali. The plinth will hopefully incorporate decoupled motor and decoupled tonearm pods and maybe a sprung based base board. This is all pie in the sky at the moment and I;m hoping the get design finalised over the Xmas break and start prototyping sometime in January.
That's about all so far....

ECL82 is a triode/pentode in the same glass, not sure what Glenn is using it for in your preamp Andrew, as for the diffrences, ECC83, amplification is 100 per side, ECC81, around 55 amplification per side, ECC82, around 22 per side etc, in much equipment [check with Glenn] you can use an ECC81 with good affect, which is a good compromise between an 83, and 82, as far as gain etc.
Its not only about the amplification though, both ECC81, and ECC82 also have a higher current drive capability than an ECC83. top military version of the ECC81 is the CV4024, or M8162.
