Indeed, Ian. But what pissed me off was a dealer sneakily entering via the backdoor simply to reopen old wounds/old dispute, rather than declaring his trade status on his introduction thread, and paying for the privilege of contributing here on that basis!

That is simply unacceptable, and shows complete disregard for how things are done, so his post will be binned.

To be fair to him, and this is a hypothetical point and no reflection whatsoever on Shane with whom I have had some very good transactions, I don't think someone should have to pay for the right to reply to public criticism of their business, and that goes for any forum/newspaper/TV/ whatever context we're talking about.

Trying to sell your wares via the backdoor is a completely different situation of course and totally unacceptable IMHO.

Fully recognise that this is your site Marco, and totally your right to decide, I just wanted to put an alternative view out there in case you hadn't considered it

Just to make clear, Shane is a 100% trustworthy member with whom I've only ever had good experiences and I don't doubt his version of events. That shouldn't mean others don't have the right to put their version across though, whether they're private or trader.

    Hi Lawrence,

I accept all that, and you know the man in question. Is Shane the name of the dealer from In Tune audio? As that's who I'm referring to, not Shane who posts here as a long term member.

However, in terms of trade, the rules are that a) all traders MUST declare their trade status when joining, even if advertising or not, and b) pay for the privilege if they want to advertise, even if it's only mentioning the name of their business, as that in itself is a form of advertising, which could generate Google traffic/backlinks that the dealer may subsequently profit from. It's simply correct protocol.

It's happened in the past, mate, with chancers trying to bag some free advertising or trade 'under the radar'.. TBH, it's quite obvious reading the dealer's introductory post that it was simply a token gesture, in order for the software to allow him to post on the main forum and rekindle an old dispute, especially as he's completely ignored me and not posted since, so I stand by what I said

Fair enough I haven't looked at any if his history and also just seen that the original post is years olds. Also he never replied to your post which shows a lack of respect for you and the site.

I'm probably jumping to someone's defence undeservedly on a purely theoretical general point, but that theoretical point still stands so I'll leave it there for posterity.

Edit: no I was talking about Shane the OP, just wanted to make sure nobody reading this was thinking I doubted his version of events, which I don't.

Fair enough on everything else. Here you've hit the nail on the head, though:

Indeed, which is why I deleted his post, in order not to provide him with any satisfaction. His intentions were entirely selfish, unconstructive, and finally disrespectful.

And have a look yourself - is there anything on his welcome thread that indicated he was representing InTune Audio: https://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?71990-Hi

    Nope... Case closed!
